The country exhibits strong healthcare demand, with a high prevalence of chronic diseases—diabetes, for example, affects 8.3% of the population—and its healthcare system is heavily reliant on imports, with 89% of medical devices sourced from abroad. The government is advancing the modernization of healthcare infrastructure, driving demand for high-end diagnostic equipment, surgical instruments, and remote monitoring products.

Following the signing of a free trade agreement between China and Colombia in 2022, bilateral trade has continued to grow. In 2024, trade volume reached RMB 149.63 billion (approximately USD 21 billion), up 13.1% year on year. The healthcare sector stood out: in 2024, China’s exports of pharmaceutical products to Colombia totaled USD 740 million, a year-on-year increase of 18.74%; from January to April 2025, medical device exports rose by 16.6% compared with the same period last year.

The Colombian medical device market is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 6.3% from 2024 to 2029, reaching US$2.2 billion by 2029.
