Since its inception in 1995, the Uzbekistan International Healthcare and Pharmaceutical Exhibition (TIHE) has become one of the country’s earliest trade fairs and the only medical exhibition in Uzbekistan accredited by the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI). This exhibition enjoys a prestigious reputation throughout Central Asia, making a significant contribution to the development of the healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors in Uzbekistan and across the region, thereby establishing Central Asia as one of the most promising markets. Notably, the event was held concurrently with the Uzbekistan Dental Exhibition and received strong support from the Ministry of Public Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Uzbekistan Dental Association, the State Agency for Pharmaceutical Technologies of Uzbekistan, and the Tashkent City Government.

PART 2

Market Overview and Analysis

01 Geographical Location and Historical Background

The Republic of Uzbekistan, known as the “Pearl of Central Asia,” is located in the heart of Central Asia and shares borders with Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, and the Kyrgyz Republic. As a renowned ancient nation along the Silk Road, Uzbekistan boasts deep historical ties with China’s Silk Road and long-standing cultural connections.

02 Population and Area

Uzbekistan has a total population of 36.8 million and a land area of 447,400 square kilometers. This vast territory and sizable population provide a solid foundation for the country’s economic and social development.

03 Current Status of the Healthcare System

According to incomplete statistics, Uzbekistan currently has 8,322 medical and preventive care institutions, including 1,018 hospitals and 3,825 outpatient clinics and rural health facilities. Nevertheless, despite the large number of such institutions, challenges remain, such as disparities across regions that result in uneven quality of medical infrastructure and varying levels of service efficiency, as well as the need to ensure the equitable allocation and effective utilization of healthcare resources.

04 Pharmaceutical Market and Import Situation

Uzbekistan consumes pharmaceuticals worth over US$1 billion annually, with approximately 80% of these imports. Russia, China, India, and Ukraine are the primary sources of Uzbekistan’s pharmaceutical supplies. To meet domestic demand, the Uzbek government is actively seeking foreign partners interested in establishing local production of pharmaceuticals and medical devices.

05 China–Ukraine Visa Policy and Economic and Trade Relations

Driven by the Belt and Road Initiative, China–Ukraine bilateral economic and trade relations have flourished. In particular, Uzbekistan has introduced a 10-day visa‑free policy for Chinese tourists, which has provided significant benefits to both countries’ exhibition‑organizing efforts and economic and trade exchanges. In 2023, bilateral trade between China and Uzbekistan exceeded US$10 billion, up 40% year on year, making China Uzbekistan’s largest trading partner.
