Travel Advisory

Travel Reminder

Immigration Guidelines

1. It is prohibited to carry animals, plants, narcotics, or internationally embargoed items across the border. Upon entry, you may bring in up to US$5,000 in cash.

2. Upon entering Nigeria, cabin crew will distribute immigration registration cards on board; please complete them accurately.

3. If you have obtained an e-visa, upon entering Nigeria, you will need to cooperate with customs officers and exchange your e-visa page for a sticker‑type visa before clearing immigration. This procedure is free of charge. Given the generally low efficiency of administrative processes in Africa and the long queues at border crossings, you should expect a wait of at least two hours. Please find a seat in the waiting area and remain patient.

4. Bring your original passport (with at least six months of validity) and your flight itinerary.

5. According to the International Certificate of Vaccination, travelers entering Nigeria must be vaccinated against yellow fever.

6. Bring an ample supply of brochures, posters, and other materials.

7. Mobile phone (with international roaming enabled), charger, power bank, and travel adapter.

8. Credit card (it is recommended to take a photo of the card number and set a payment limit), and an appropriate amount of foreign currency (sums).

9. Bring your toiletries and necessary clothing, and pack some of your regular medications—such as gastrointestinal remedies, allergy pills, fever reducers, and pain relievers—for emergencies.

10. Please do not place computers, batteries, or power banks in your checked baggage.

11. Nigeria’s public security situation is relatively complex, Therefore, try to avoid going out alone.

12. In Nigeria, do not take photographs indiscriminately. When visiting attractions or attending business events, if you wish to take photographs, please obtain prior consent from the relevant parties and respect local customs and culture.

13. Lagos is 7 hours behind China; the time there is Beijing Time minus 7 hours.

14. Regarding currency, the local official currency is the Naira. Please note that credit cards (such as VISA and MasterCard) and UnionPay cards are widely accepted throughout Lagos.

15. Electricity: Lagos’s power supply standards are similar to those in China, typically 240V at 50Hz. All outlets in Lagos are British-style three-pin sockets.

16. Tips: Bribery among Nigerian officials is quite prevalent, so even in situations where tipping isn’t customary, you may still be expected to pay. It’s important to remain vigilant. At the airport, you’ll likely encounter people soliciting tips throughout your journey; it’s a good idea to carry small denominations of naira or renminbi for this purpose. When settling the bill with drivers and other service providers, leaving a small change as a tip will be greatly appreciated.

17. Nigerians tend to be outgoing, straightforward, and generous, with a strong emphasis on etiquette. They avoid using the left hand to receive or pass objects; doing so is considered disrespectful. In some parts of Nigeria, the index finger is regarded as inauspicious, and pointing at someone with the right‑hand index finger is seen as a provocative gesture.

18. In April, Lagos experiences temperatures ranging from 24°C to 33°C, with average daytime highs around 33°C. During the day, you can opt for lightweight cotton short-sleeved shirts, loose-fitting trousers, or thin dresses to stay cool in the heat. For business events or more formal meetings and receptions, be sure to bring smart attire. As late April marks the onset of the rainy season and rainfall is likely, it is advisable to carry an umbrella.
