6. Time Difference: Peru is 13 hours behind China; the time in Peru is Beijing Time minus 13 hours.
7. Weather Conditions and Dress Recommendations: In September, temperatures in Peru typically range from about 17°C to 21°C, with average daytime highs around 21°C and average nighttime lows around 14°C. We recommend wearing comfortable, versatile clothing such as cotton shirts, long pants, and long-sleeved T-shirts. It’s also advisable to bring a lightweight down jacket to stay warm during cooler mornings and evenings. For business meetings or more formal visits, please prepare smart‑casual or formal attire.
8. Electricity: Peru’s mains voltage is 220V. The most common plugs are the U.S.-style Type A, which has two flat, parallel prongs, and the European Type C, which has two round prongs.
9. Currency: Peru’s official currency is the Peruvian sol (S/). Banks issue banknotes in denominations of 10, 20, 50, 100, and 200 soles. Traveler’s checks and major foreign currencies can be exchanged at hotels, airports, and banks. Various international credit cards, such as VISA and MASTERCARD, are widely accepted throughout Peru. However, it’s important to note that between members of the opposite sex, handshakes are preferred unless the relationship is very close. Avoid excessive physical contact—such as casually patting someone on the shoulder or embracing—especially when interacting with elders or strangers. When dining, it is customary to use a knife and fork: hold the fork in your left hand and the knife in your right; do not pick up food directly with your hands (except for small items like bread or french fries). When eating soup, use a spoon to scoop it from the bowl, avoiding any slurping sounds.
Peru is home to world cultural heritage sites such as Machu Picchu and the ancient city of Cusco. When visiting these attractions, it is strictly forbidden to touch artifacts or climb historic structures—such as the stone walls at Machu Picchu—and you should refrain from picking up stones or plants from the ground. Local laws impose hefty fines for damaging cultural relics or natural landscapes.
