Entry Requirements
📄 Please be sure to carry the original passport with at least six months of validity, your U.S. visa page, and your EVUS registration (required for transit through the United States), along with your flight itinerary, a printed copy of your invitation letter, and your yellow fever vaccination certificate, for immigration inspection. Do not place these documents in your checked baggage.
📄 When entering or leaving Colombia, to ensure a smooth and hassle-free border crossing, it is strongly recommended that you receive the yellow fever vaccine at least 10 days in advance and carry your “yellow card” with you. This precaution not only meets Colombia’s entry requirements but also provides the best protection for your health and safety. Weather
In Bogotá, July temperatures typically range from 8°C to 15°C, with an average daytime high of around 15°C. It’s advisable to wear warm layers such as suits, light jackets, trench coats, blazers, and thin sweaters. For business meetings or more formal visits, be sure to bring formal attire.
Currency
The currency of Bogotá is the Colombian peso (COP); you can bring U.S. dollars to exchange on site. 1 U.S. dollar ≈ 3,490 Colombian pesos, 1 Chinese yuan (CNY) ≈ 480 Colombian pesos (recent exchange rate, for reference only). Please bring small-denomination U.S. dollars, traveler’s checks, and Visa or MasterCard credit cards.
Electricity
Bogotá’s electrical supply standard is 110V, 60Hz. All outlets in Bogotá are U.S.-style three‑prong sockets, with two parallel flat slots and one round pin.
Customs and traditions
1. Bogotanos are warm and highly respectful; upon meeting, men shake hands, while women exchange a single-sided cheek kiss. In everyday conversation, it is customary to address others by their titles.
2. Always be punctual for business meetings; it’s advisable to arrive five minutes early. When visiting someone’s home, bringing chocolates or flowers as a thoughtful gift is very appropriate. Avoid lilies and yellow flowers, and opt for elegant packaging to enhance the presentation.
3. For everyday attire, aim for neatness and propriety; avoid overly revealing or casual clothing. When dining out, a tip of around 10% is customary.
4. Colombia has implemented a nationwide indoor smoking ban: cigarettes and e-cigarettes are prohibited in enclosed spaces such as exhibition halls, hotels, and restaurants, with smoking permitted only in designated outdoor areas; violations are subject to hefty fines.
5. During casual conversation, you can discuss soccer, coffee, and local scenery, but avoid topics related to drugs or sensitive political issues. The majority of the population is Catholic, and the nine-night Christmas novena is an important traditional festival in the area.
