PART 04

Entry and Documents

1. Effective from 00:00 on November 1, 2023, travelers entering or leaving the country are no longer required to complete the “People’s Republic of China Health Declaration Form for Entry/Exit.” However, travelers who exhibit symptoms of infectious diseases—such as fever, cough, difficulty breathing, vomiting, diarrhea, rash, or unexplained subcutaneous bleeding—or who have already been diagnosed with an infectious disease must proactively make a health declaration to customs and cooperate with customs in undergoing temperature screening, epidemiological investigations, medical examinations, sample collection, and other health quarantine measures. Any concealment or evasion of quarantine will result in corresponding legal liability; if such actions lead to the spread of a quarantinable infectious disease or pose a serious risk of transmission, criminal liability may be imposed.

2. Upon entering the United Kingdom, you will be required to undergo immigration clearance and customs declaration. Cabin crew will distribute arrival cards and customs declaration forms on board; please complete them accurately based on your circumstances. After arriving at the airport, if you have items to declare or are unsure whether they need to be declared, please proceed through the red channel. You may set aside any items requiring declaration after collecting your baggage for easier presentation. Passengers with no items to declare should use the green channel.

3. Upon entering the United Kingdom, UK border control points offer British passport lanes, EU country lanes, and other passport lanes; Chinese citizens should choose the “Other Passport Lane.”

PART 05

Travel Advisory

Items to Bring

1. Please prepare in advance the original passport, invitation letter, valid visa, flight itinerary, entry permit, and other relevant personal documents in paper form to carry with you; do not place them in your checked baggage under any circumstances!

2. Bring an ample supply of brochures, business cards, posters, and other promotional materials.

3. Mobile phone (with international roaming enabled), charger, power bank (3C-certified), and a travel adapter.

4. Bring your toiletries and necessary clothing, and pack some of your regular medications—such as gastrointestinal remedies, allergy pills, fever reducers, and pain relievers—for emergencies.

5. Please do not place computers, batteries, or power banks in your checked baggage.

Time difference

The United Kingdom is 8 hours behind China; the time there is Beijing Time minus 8 hours.

Currency

The currency of the United Kingdom is the British pound (GBP). It’s advisable to exchange an appropriate amount of pounds while still in your home country. 1 GBP ≈ 9.33 RMB (recent exchange rate, for reference only). When traveling to the UK, you may carry no more than 10,000 GBP; amounts exceeding this limit must be declared at customs.

Weather

1. In March, temperatures in the UK typically range from 6°C to 17°C, with an average daytime high of around 17°C. It’s advisable to wear warm clothing such as suits, light jackets, trench coats, and thin sweaters.

2. When attending business events or formal visits and meetings, please wear smart attire. However, the British weather can be highly unpredictable; spring showers are often brief and sudden, so carrying rain gear is essential.

Electricity

1. The voltage in the UK is 230V, so please ensure your charger is compatible. The power plug has three square pins arranged in a triangular pattern.

2. Exhibitors are advised to bring their own UK‑standard power adapters.

Customs and traditions

1. Tipping is a common practice in the UK, though it is not mandatory. Whether to tip and how much depends largely on the occasion and the quality of service. At mid-range to upscale restaurants, it’s customary to leave 10%–15% of the bill; some fast-food or casual dining establishments do not require tipping. For taxis, drivers often round up the fare to the next whole pound as a tip.

2. British people place great importance on personal space; when conversing with others, they try to maintain a certain distance, avoid standing too close, and refrain from physical contact.

3. Before doing anything in public, please line up if queuing is required.

4. In the UK, avoid pointing at people with your finger, as this is considered disrespectful.

5. The British consider elephants, peacocks, and black cats to be inauspicious; dark green is regarded as an unlucky color; and chrysanthemums and lilies are flowers associated with funerals. The numbers “13” and “Friday” are also considered taboo.

Traffic safety

In the UK, vehicles drive on the left side of the road, the opposite of China, and traffic moves at a faster pace. When crossing the street, be sure to use crosswalks and pay close attention to traffic signals.
