Exhibition Introduction
The East Africa International Medical Devices and Laboratory Instruments & Equipment Exhibition (WHX NAIROBI & WHX LABS NAIROBI), a key event under Informa Markets—the world-renowned organizer of specialized trade shows—has long been the largest and most prestigious medical‑industry exhibition in Eastern Africa. In 2026, the show will celebrate its eleventh anniversary!
Formerly known as Medic East Africa and Medlab East Africa, this exhibition has been officially rebranded this year as World Health myExpo (WHX Nairobi & WHX Labs Nairobi). Over the past decade, it has grown into one of the most influential specialized trade shows for healthcare and laboratory solutions in East Africa, opening up new opportunities for the region’s medical sector. Each year, it brings together government agencies, healthcare professionals, medical device manufacturers, and distributors and agents to connect, transact, and learn at East Africa’s premier healthcare event—expanding global reach, generating new business, forging relationships with industry experts and potential clients, and showcasing cutting-edge products and services to the East African healthcare and medical laboratory communities.
Market Overview
(1) The market size is growing steadily: The East African medical equipment market is one of the fastest-growing regional markets in Africa. The market size is projected to exceed USD 1.4 billion by 2025 and is expected to maintain a compound annual growth rate of 7.83% from 2025 to 2029, reaching a total market value of USD 1.949 billion by 2029.
(2) Core Hub Role: The East African market is characterized by a “Kenya‑centered, regionally‑radiating” structure, with Kenya’s pivotal role significantly amplifying the actual influence of the regional market size. Kenya is the largest importer and exporter, and more than 80% of medical devices in countries such as Uganda and Tanzania are transshipped through Nairobi.
(3) Geopolitical and Economic Stability: Kenya is the leading force in the social and economic development of the six East African countries. With a total population of 53.33 million, it currently boasts a middle class accounting for 44.9%—a share far exceeding the East African average of 22.6%—making it one of the most politically stable and economically well‑grounded nations in sub‑Saharan Africa. At the same time, Kenya serves as a key trade transit hub in Eastern Africa, the sole pivot point for the Belt and Road Initiative on the continent, and one of the countries that has attracted the largest volume of Chinese investment.
(4) Excellent opportunities for product exports: Kenya has set “Vision 2030” as its core strategic goal, aiming to transform into a middle-income, newly industrialized country by 2030. The country is among the fastest-growing medical device markets in sub-Saharan Africa; however, due to limited manufacturing infrastructure, weak technological capabilities, and restricted access to raw materials, domestically produced medical devices remain scarce, leaving Kenya heavily reliant on imports. According to a report by the U.S. International Trade Administration, China is Kenya’s largest source of medical device imports. From an import‑demand perspective, diagnostic imaging equipment such as electrocardiographs and MRI scanners, consumables like syringes and bandages, and viral‑testing reagents all exhibit strong market potential in the Kenyan market.
