Exhibition Introduction

The Dubai International Medical Equipment Exhibition (WHX Dubai) is the largest, most comprehensive, and most influential international trade fair for medical equipment in the Middle East, having successfully held 51 editions to date.
WHX Dubai provides a platform for global healthcare professionals to connect, showcase their work, and share knowledge and experience, thereby driving progress and innovation in the industry. At the same time, the event offers businesses a valuable opportunity to enter the Middle East and North Africa markets, helping them expand operations and enhance brand visibility. In 2026, WHX Dubai will be held concurrently with WHX Labs Dubai, with both exhibitions sharing venues and synergizing to bring together over 235,000 healthcare professionals from more than 180 countries and regions, along with more than 4,300 exhibitors. Guided by the mission of “Co‑Creating a Healthier World,” the event has established a groundbreaking global healthcare platform that integrates technology showcases, academic exchanges, and business partnerships, injecting fresh momentum into the development of the global healthcare sector.
In 2026, WHX Dubai will host over 680 Chinese companies, with a total exhibition space of 10,000 square meters. From large-scale medical equipment and high-value consumables to smart healthcare solutions, numerous Chinese enterprises will showcase innovative products featuring fully independent intellectual property rights, drawing a steady stream of international buyers to their booths. This not only underscores China’s leap in medical technology—from “catching up” to “running alongside,” and even “leading the way”—but also demonstrates, through robust technical expertise and versatile clinical applicability, a “China solution” contributing to global health care.

Market Overview

Overview of the Middle East Market:

The Middle East healthcare market is one of the fastest-growing and most promising regions globally, with the medical device sector projected to exceed US$30 billion by 2025 and the digital health segment reaching approximately US$13.8 billion, both experiencing average annual growth rates of 15%–20%. Led primarily by the Gulf Cooperation Council countries—Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar—the region has become a core strategic market for Chinese medical companies seeking international expansion.
The Middle East exhibits an extremely high dependence on imported medical products, with over 85% of medical devices and more than 60% of pharmaceuticals sourced from abroad, making it one of the world’s key markets for medical imports. Local enterprises in the region remain relatively weak, primarily focusing on low‑value‑added consumables such as bandages and syringes, which together account for less than 10% of the market share. Meanwhile, domestic capabilities in producing high‑end products are virtually nonexistent; for core categories like advanced imaging equipment and surgical robots, import dependency exceeds 65%. Notably, the traditional export‑only model is losing its competitive edge in local government procurement. Countries such as Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have introduced policies—including tax incentives and procurement preferences—to encourage companies to establish manufacturing facilities, set up R&D centers, and deploy after‑sales teams locally. As a result, localization has become an essential strategy for Chinese firms seeking to deepen their presence in the Middle Eastern healthcare market.

The UAE Healthcare Market:
>Healthcare System and Investment:
The United Arab Emirates boasts a well-developed healthcare system, with ample medical equipment and personnel, and a favorable physician-to-population ratio of 2.8 physicians per 1,000 people.
In the 2025 fiscal year, the United Arab Emirates allocated AED 5.745 billion to healthcare and community preventive services, accounting for 8% of the federal budget. By 2029, healthcare spending in the UAE is projected to reach AED 151 billion, with a compound annual growth rate of 6.7%, driven primarily by investments in infrastructure and service delivery.
>Weak domestic industries:
The UAE’s domestic medical device industry remains in its early stages. As of October 2025, there were 61 locally based medical device manufacturers, representing a modest 3.39% increase compared to 2023. In terms of industrial distribution, companies are primarily concentrated on the production of medical consumables, while indigenous capabilities for manufacturing high-end medical equipment remain virtually nonexistent. In 2025, the UAE’s medical device market reached US$1.94 billion (approximately AED 5.6 billion); however, the share of locally produced supply has yet to see a significant rise. Constraints stemming from an underdeveloped industrial base and technological barriers continue to hinder domestic producers from meeting market demand.
>High import dependence:
Due to limitations in the development of its domestic industries, the UAE’s medical device market exhibits a very high degree of import dependence, with over 90% of medical equipment sourced from abroad. Among these, core product categories such as high-end imaging systems, surgical instruments, and in vitro diagnostic devices see an even higher import share, reaching 96%, underscoring the market’s heavy reliance on global supply chains. From a demand perspective, small‑scale medical devices—including ventilators, anesthesia machines, auto‑disable syringes, blood collection needles, suction devices, various types of medical catheters, surgical instruments, emergency kits, and laboratory diagnostic equipment—are particularly favored by local purchasers.
>Continued demand growth:
The UAE’s network of private healthcare providers continues to expand and integrate cutting-edge technologies such as surgical robots and advanced diagnostic imaging, with the aim of enhancing the quality of patient care. These newly built and upgraded private hospitals are expected to accelerate demand for a wide range of medical equipment. Meanwhile, intensifying competition among private healthcare groups is likely to drive regular procurement of state-of-the-art medical devices, further unlocking market potential.
The UAE market is placing increasing emphasis on preventive healthcare and early disease diagnosis, with growing public awareness of the importance of preventive check-ups. On one hand, employers are proactively offering employees access to health screenings such as blood tests, cardiac monitoring, and basic imaging; on the other, the government is vigorously promoting early‑detection initiatives for conditions like diabetes, heart disease, and cancer, with some screening programs now covered by insurance. These factors are collectively driving the widespread adoption of medical devices.
Driven by factors such as an accelerating aging population, the rising prevalence of chronic diseases, and growing patient preference for home-based care, the UAE’s home healthcare market is expanding rapidly. The market size is projected to surge from USD 1.18 billion in 2025 to USD 2.19 billion by 2031, with a compound annual growth rate of 10.84%. Mandatory health insurance coverage stands as one of the primary drivers, creating substantial market opportunities for medical devices related to rehabilitation, respiratory therapy, and chronic disease management.
>Market potential is becoming increasingly evident:
In recent years, the UAE’s medical device market has maintained steady growth, firmly establishing itself among the world’s most dynamic and rapidly expanding markets. As a central hub of the Middle East’s healthcare industry, the UAE serves a vast regional market of over 450 million people across the Middle East and North Africa. With urbanization rates exceeding 65% and an accelerating aging population, coupled with the high prevalence of chronic diseases and ongoing upgrades to healthcare infrastructure, the region is witnessing robust and steadily growing demand for pharmaceuticals and medical devices, underscoring its immense market potential.
> Opportunities for Chinese Enterprises Going Global:
The China–UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which entered into force in 2025, provides robust policy support for Chinese enterprises seeking to establish a foothold in the UAE and expand into the Middle Eastern market. Coupled with targeted preferential measures offered by dedicated free-trade zones such as the Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC), this framework has created an end-to-end favorable ecosystem featuring tariff reductions, streamlined certification processes, operational incentives, and talent‑retention measures—benefiting Chinese companies particularly in sectors like healthcare and machinery. Today, the Middle East has become a popular destination for Chinese medical firms expanding overseas; in 2025, China’s exports of medical devices to the region reached US$2.065 billion, up 6.63% year over year. Notably, the in vitro diagnostics (IVD) segment has experienced especially strong growth, with instrument exports surging 43.8% and reagent sales rising 23.3% in the first half of 2025 compared with the same period the previous year.
