Informa Markets

Exhibition Introduction

The Asia International Medical Device & Laboratory Instruments and Equipment Exhibition is one of the key events in Southeast Asia’s medical device industry. Organized by Informa Exhibitions, it is held annually as a traveling show, bringing together resources across the entire value chain—including pharmaceuticals, medical devices, diagnostic technologies, medical technology, and digital health. By strengthening regional cooperation, attracting investment, and fostering groundbreaking innovation, the exhibition solidified its position in 2025 as a leading platform for advancing the medical value chain in Southeast Asia, laying a robust foundation for the ASEAN healthcare sector.

The event was successfully held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in 2025, bringing together over 450 exhibiting companies from more than 54 countries and regions, as well as over 10,000 attendees, to help expand and sustain the ASEAN healthcare market. During the three-day exhibition, more than 60 specialized conferences and forums were also organized, where experts engaged in in-depth discussions on hot topics in the healthcare sector—such as the application of artificial intelligence in medicine and emerging trends in telemedicine—fostering a vibrant exchange of ideas and providing valuable insights and directions for industry development.

Market Overview

Basic Information: Thailand is located in the central-southern part of the Indochinese Peninsula, with an area of 513,000 square kilometers. It is a constitutional monarchy, with the king serving as head of state and the government operating under a parliamentary system. In recent years, the political situation has stabilized, creating a favorable environment for foreign investment. Over 90% of the population practices Buddhism, and Thailand’s “smiling service” culture is renowned worldwide. English proficiency in Bangkok reaches 80%, facilitating international business. As a core member of ASEAN, Thailand actively promotes mutual recognition of regional healthcare standards. In 2025, it will assume the chairmanship of the Asia Cooperation Dialogue, further strengthening its position as a medical hub within ASEAN.

Opportunities in the ASEAN Healthcare Market: The ASEAN Medical Tourism Year served over 5 million international patients, directly boosting demand for high-end medical equipment and cross-border service chains. The ASEAN digital healthcare market is projected to exceed US$5 billion by 2029, and the launch of the China–ASEAN regional pharmaceutical centralized procurement platform in January 2025 marks a new phase in cross-border healthcare cooperation. By leveraging joint procurement mechanisms and mutual recognition of standards, the platform significantly lowers barriers for Chinese pharmaceutical companies entering the ASEAN market. ASEAN is “reshaping the global healthcare supply chain landscape,” and Chinese enterprises, with their technological prowess, cost advantages, and favorable policy environment, are poised to become key players in this transformation.

Thailand’s healthcare market is thriving: Thailand’s medical tourism has set a global benchmark with its “high cost-effectiveness plus international-standard services,” attracting patients from around the world to undergo cutting-edge treatments such as anti-aging and orthopedic procedures. In 2024, the market reached a total value of over 50 billion Thai baht (approximately US$1.43 billion), and it is projected to account for 5% of GDP by 2035. This thriving sector is directly boosting demand among private hospitals for minimally invasive surgical instruments and advanced imaging equipment.

Weak supply base: Thailand’s reliance on imported medical devices ranges from 72% to 90%, with the primary sources being the United States (29%), Japan (17%), China (15%), and Germany (14%). Domestic production is dominated by low‑value consumables, such as medical gloves and syringes, which account for 85.3% of total exports. Through its “Medical Hub 4.0” strategy, the government is promoting the localization of high‑end medical equipment, with a focus on advancing digital health technologies like AI‑based diagnostics and wearable devices.

Population aging: Thailand’s population aging is accelerating; by 2025, individuals aged 60 and above will account for 22% of the total population, directly driving demand for chronic disease management devices and rehabilitation and elderly‑care equipment.

The government provides strong support: Thailand’s “Healthcare 4.0” strategy—launched in 2017 as a key pillar of the national “Thailand 4.0” initiative—aims to transform Thailand from a low-cost healthcare provider into a premier ASEAN hub for high-end medical services and digital health. It seeks to bridge the information gap between corporate innovation and government needs, enabling precise alignment between policy direction and practical implementation.
