Exhibition Introduction

The Colombia International Medical Exhibition (MEDITECH 2026), organized by the Bogotá Medical Association and the Chamber of Commerce, is renowned as Colombia’s largest medical equipment trade show and is held biennially. Since its inception in 2008, MEDITECH has now reached its ninth edition. The event has joined MEDICA’s global exhibition network, benefiting from the resources of the world’s leading medical‑trade show organizer. As a result, it has become a key platform for medical companies to showcase their products in Central America and the Caribbean, widely regarded as the premier choice for entering the Colombian market.

The 8th MEDITECH Exhibition in 2024 brought together over 250 exhibitors from 17 countries, including the United States, Japan, Brazil, Germany, and China, and attracted 11,000 professional visitors. With more than 75 Chinese exhibitors, the event vividly showcased the innovative strength and development potential of China’s medical industry. The exhibition drew leading experts and scholars from around the world, as well as local healthcare professionals, administrators, hospital procurement managers, dentists, and others, thereby fostering greater communication and collaboration between regional healthcare stakeholders—ranging from administrators and clinicians to nurses—and their international counterparts.

Held every two years, the Colombia Medical Exhibition is one of the most professional medical trade shows in South America and will bring greater market opportunities to the entire South American market.

Market Overview

☆ Colombia has been one of the Latin American countries with relatively stable economic development over the past six decades, and its government has made the promotion of foreign trade exports a key component of its economic policy. Colombia is classified as a middle-income country in Latin America, with a high degree of marketization.

☆ Colombia is the fourth-largest economy in Latin America, with a population exceeding 50 million, making it the second most populous country in South America. The five major cities—Bogotá, Medellín, Cali, Barranquilla, and Cartagena—are the primary population centers. The official language is Spanish, and the majority of residents are Catholic.

☆ Chronic diseases are highly prevalent among Colombia’s population. Across the country, the number of older adults living with debilitating conditions such as diabetes, cancer, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is on the rise. Consequently, several government agencies are now prioritizing the development of healthcare infrastructure and the provision of relevant medical equipment in healthcare facilities.

☆ Colombia is the third-largest medical device market in Latin America, behind Brazil and Mexico. The market is relatively fragmented, with leading players including Medtronic, Boston Scientific Corporation, and Abbott. Market participants are adopting strategies such as collaborations and partnerships to develop cutting-edge devices for patients with chronic conditions. Consequently, these initiatives, coupled with an increasing emphasis on distribution networks to broaden the reach of existing product portfolios, are expected to drive market growth.

☆ Colombia’s healthcare infrastructure is undergoing modernization, with hospitals and clinics continuously upgrading their equipment to deliver higher‑quality medical services. This trend is driving demand for advanced medical devices, particularly in areas such as diagnostic imaging, surgical instruments, and laboratory equipment. Meanwhile, as digitalization and networking gain traction, smart medical devices and remote monitoring systems are also attracting increasing attention.

☆ Colombia has signed free trade agreements with numerous countries, including the United States, Canada, and the European Union, creating more business opportunities for foreign enterprises. In 2022, Colombia and China concluded a free trade agreement, which is expected to further boost bilateral trade and investment.

☆ In 2024, China–Colombia trade reached RMB 149.63 billion (approximately USD 21 billion), up 13.1% year on year, marking the fourth consecutive year that bilateral trade has exceeded RMB 120 billion. From January to April 2025, two-way trade totaled RMB 48.34 billion, a year-on-year increase of 8.5%, outpacing China’s overall import and export growth rate of 2.4% and setting a new record for the same period.
