Exhibition Introduction

The Kazakhstan International Medical Exhibition is a large-scale, highly representative international trade show for medical devices in Kazakhstan and one of the largest platforms in Central Asia for showcasing achievements in science, practical medicine, and the pharmaceutical sector. Established in 1993, it is held annually, bringing together physicians, pharmacists, government officials, and business representatives from around the world. To date, the exhibition has been successfully organized for 30 editions.

In 2025, the Kazakhstan International Medical Exhibition welcomed over 400 exhibitors from 16 countries, including Belgium, Belarus, the United Kingdom, Germany, Egypt, India, Italy, Kazakhstan, China, Pakistan, Poland, Russia, Singapore, Turkey, Uzbekistan, and Ukraine. More than 5,000 professional visitors—comprising physicians, pharmacists, and corporate representatives from diverse specialties—were drawn by the event’s high‑quality content and innovative solutions in medical technology and laboratory equipment, gathering in Almaty to network and procure.

Market Overview

1. Kazakhstan is the most economically developed country in Central Asia and serves as the first stop for China’s overland Silk Road as it extends beyond its borders. The country enjoys political stability, and China and Kazakhstan have maintained a long-standing friendly relationship. With the implementation of China’s Belt and Road Initiative, Kazakhstan has become a key destination that cannot be overlooked in the process of China’s medical industry expanding into international markets.

2. In 2024, Kazakhstan’s medical equipment market reached US$1.7 billion. The country’s domestic manufacturing capacity remains limited, with local producers unable to supply the necessary equipment and lacking the resources to rapidly develop a local industry capable of meeting demand; as a result, approximately 90% of the market is reliant on imports. This makes Kazakhstan the largest market in Central Asia, accounting for roughly 25% of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU)’s medical equipment sector. The market structure is dominated by imaging diagnostics—such as CT and MRI—surgical instruments, and laboratory equipment, which together comprise more than 60% of the market share. According to the “2024–2030 Medical Infrastructure Development Plan,” 20 new general hospitals are slated for construction, adding 2,700 beds and directly boosting demand for medical equipment.

3. China, Germany, and Russia are the top three sources of imports, accounting for 65% of the total import value. Chinese products, leveraging their cost‑performance advantage—priced at only 60–70% of European and American brands—dominate the market. In 2024, China’s medical device exports to Kazakhstan increased by 18.7% year on year, with products such as ultrasound scanners and oxygen concentrators now included on the national hospital procurement list.

4. In Kazakhstan’s healthcare market, public hospitals dominate, accounting for approximately 70% of the market share. Procurement by government‑led public medical institutions is conducted through international tenders; in the 2024 imaging equipment tender, Chinese companies secured a winning bid rate of 55%, significantly higher than the 28% achieved by European and American firms. Meanwhile, private hospitals tend to procure high‑end imported equipment in specialized fields such as reproductive medicine, with IVF equipment fetching prices ranging from USD 5,000 to 10,000 per treatment cycle.
