Market Overview
U.S. Market:
The United States firmly holds the title of the world’s largest medical device market. In 2024, the U.S. medical device market reached US$188.68 billion and is projected to grow to US$199.06 billion by 2025, expanding at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.8%. By 2032, the market is expected to surpass US$314.96 billion. This growth is primarily driven by several key factors: an increasing share of the population aged 65 and older—now exceeding 16%—the high prevalence of chronic diseases such as diabetes and cardiovascular conditions, and robust advancements in medical technology.
In the realm of China–U.S. medical device trade, China maintains an overall trade surplus with the United States. In 2024, China’s imports of medical devices from the U.S. totaled $8.524 billion, accounting for 23.8% of China’s total medical device import value ($35.8 billion). Meanwhile, China’s exports of medical devices to the U.S. reached $11.76 billion, up 9.4% year over year, representing 24.1% of China’s total medical device export value ($48.75 billion). As a result, the U.S. remains China’s largest export market for medical devices. Medical consumables constitute the core of China’s exports to the U.S., making up more than 57% of the total; in 2024, their export value stood at $6.69 billion, a year-on-year increase of 13.91%. Looking ahead, China’s medical device exports to the U.S. are expected to surpass $12.5 billion in 2025.
Latin American Market:
In 2024, the Latin American medical device market reached US$45.37 billion and is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 6%, with the market size expected to surpass US$60 billion by 2030. With individuals aged 65 and older accounting for 8.5% of the region’s population, Latin America ranks among the highest globally in the prevalence of diabetes and cardiovascular diseases, significantly driving demand for diagnostic devices—such as blood glucose monitors and MRI scanners—and chronic disease management products.
Notably, Latin America’s reliance on imported medical devices exceeds 80%, with the United States and China serving as the primary sources of imports. In 2024, China’s exports of medical devices to Latin America totaled US$1.504 billion, up 17.1% year over year, with medical consumables accounting for 55% (such as syringes and gloves) and mid- to high-end equipment (including CT scanners and endoscopes) making up 26%. Meanwhile, the United States holds a dominant position in the region’s high-end medical device market.
