Exhibition Introduction

The 20th PHARMEDI VIETNAM, hosted by Informa Markets, will be held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. During the event, four concurrent exhibitions will take place, covering not only the medical sector but also pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, and dentistry. As one of Southeast Asia’s most influential healthcare trade shows, the 2025 edition is themed “Innovating the Future of Medicine,” attracting over 400 exhibitors from 15 countries and regions worldwide and drawing more than 10,000 industry professionals. Among them, 86 companies from China will showcase their offerings across a combined exhibition space of over 800 square meters.

PHARMEDI VIETNAM is an information and networking platform for Vietnam’s pharmaceutical and healthcare industries, attracting numerous domestic and international exhibitors. The exhibition not only showcases the latest products and technologies but also provides a forum for industry experts to exchange ideas and highlight cutting-edge developments. In addition, the event features launches of innovative products, interactive demonstrations, and seminars, highlighting the most recent research advances in pharmacy and medical technology. It serves as both a showcase for the newest products and services and a central hub where professionals can seek comprehensive solutions and forge lasting connections.

Market Overview

Vietnam’s Healthcare Market:

Vietnam’s healthcare market is undergoing rapid growth and structural transformation, driven by supportive policies, an aging population, and the rise of the middle class, making it one of Southeast Asia’s most promising markets. By 2025, Vietnam’s total healthcare expenditure is projected to reach US$23.3 billion, accounting for 4.59% of GDP, with per capita healthcare spending around US$244. The medical device market is expected to hit US$2.3 billion, growing at a compound annual growth rate of 8.62%, with imaging diagnostic equipment—such as CT and MRI scanners—accounting for 30% of the market and emerging as the largest segment. Ninety percent of medical devices are imported, with China (35%), the United States (20%), and Germany (15%) serving as the primary sources.

Vietnam’s pharmaceutical market:

Driven by policy support, demographic dividends, and cost advantages, Vietnam’s pharmaceutical market is emerging as one of the fastest-growing in Southeast Asia. The Vietnamese pharmaceutical market is projected to reach US$7 billion by 2025 and could surpass US$10 billion by 2026, with per capita healthcare spending rising to US$244. Generic drugs currently dominate the market, with domestic manufacturers meeting 58% of local demand; however, high‑end generics—such as complex injectables—remain reliant on imports. China is Vietnam’s primary source of generic drug imports, accounting for over 32% of total imports.

Vietnam has enormous development potential:

In 2024, Vietnam’s economy staged a robust rebound, posting growth of 7.09% driven by exports, foreign direct investment, and supportive policies. This momentum carried into the first half of 2025, with GDP expanding 7.5% year over year, supported by front-loaded export‑related investments, accelerated credit growth, and substantial one‑off government spending. The continued expansion of Vietnam’s economy, the growing middle class, and rising demand for high‑quality healthcare services are key drivers of the country’s medical device industry. Moreover, increased investment in medical technologies and rapid advances in research and development are further fueling the expansion of Vietnam’s medical equipment market.

Policy Support:

The issuance and implementation of the “Primary Healthcare Network Development Plan (2021–2030, Vision 2050)” has become a key lever for boosting demand in the medical device industry and optimizing the market’s development environment. To ensure the plan’s successful execution and enhance market vitality, the government has simultaneously introduced a series of supporting policies: on the one hand, it has streamlined the import procedures for medical devices, refined approval processes, and reduced market‑entry costs for enterprises, enabling primary healthcare institutions to procure compliant equipment more efficiently; on the other hand, it has extended tax incentives to domestic medical device manufacturers, encouraging them to invest in the R&D and production of essential medical devices and fostering the localization of the industry. This two‑pronged support policy has not only alleviated Vietnam’s reliance—currently at 90%—on imported medical devices but has also facilitated the participation of international companies in the Vietnamese market through technological cooperation, joint ventures, and the establishment of manufacturing facilities.
