Exhibition Introduction
The Kyrgyzstan International Medical and Healthcare Expo (MEDEXPO KYRGYZSTAN), held annually since 2005, has successfully convened for 20 editions. It is the premier annual event in the healthcare sector of the Kyrgyz Republic and one of the five largest healthcare exhibitions in Central Asia, enjoying significant influence within the region. Official sponsors include the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Bishkek City Government, the Department of Medicines and Medical Devices of the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic, and the Department of Continuing Education and Professional Development at the S.B. Daniyarov Kyrgyz State Medical Academy, among others.
Market Overview
Kyrgyzstan Market Overview:
(1) Healthcare System and Equipment Allocation
1. Public Hospital Leadership and Equipment Distribution
• Kyrgyzstan’s healthcare system is dominated by public hospitals. Hospitals in the capital, Bishkek, and major cities such as Osh are equipped with advanced imaging technologies like MRI and CT scanners, but medical resources remain scarce in remote areas.
• As a member of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), Kyrgyzstan has strong demand for mid- to high-end medical equipment; in 2024, the annual compound growth rate of imports of Chinese medical imaging devices, such as MRI and ultrasound systems, reached 25.29%.
2. Disparities in overall healthcare standards
• The Jordanian healthcare system faces challenges such as a shortage of physicians—only 0.7 doctors per thousand people, far below international standards—and aging infrastructure, leaving its overall healthcare quality still lagging behind that of developed countries.
(II) Population and Healthcare Needs
1. Population Data and Demand
• As of January 1, 2025, Kyrgyzstan’s resident population stood at 7.282 million, up 1.7% from 2024. The natural population growth rate is approximately 15‰, with a birth rate of about 19.4‰, and an emerging trend toward population aging. Annual outpatient visits: Taking the National Center for Obstetrics and Pediatrics as an example, its annual inpatient admissions reach 35,000, while outpatient demand has been steadily increasing in tandem with population growth.
• Policy Support: Through the Decree on Urgent Measures for Developing Kyrgyzstan’s Healthcare Sector and Improving Public Health, the government is promoting upgrades to medical infrastructure and equipment, creating numerous opportunities for Chinese-invested enterprises to participate.
(3) Equipment and Consumables Requirements
1. Key Imported Product Categories and Policy Directions
• Supported by the Belt and Road Initiative, companies can swiftly complete registration procedures in Kyrgyzstan, and certain products—such as patient monitors and basic ultrasound systems—have already secured a dominant market position thanks to their cost‑effectiveness. Chinese medical enterprises benefit from a 10‑year income tax exemption and reimbursement of import duties on equipment, while cross‑border projects like the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway enable an integrated “equipment plus infrastructure” re‑export trade advantage, extending their reach into the Eurasian Economic Union market.
• Tax Incentives: To attract foreign investment in the localization of medical‑industry production, the Kyrgyz government has introduced a multi‑tiered tax‑incentive framework: medical‑device and pharmaceutical manufacturers are eligible for a 10‑year income‑tax exemption, with a standard tax rate of 10%; export‑oriented enterprises benefit from a zero VAT rate; and R&D expenses can be deducted at an enhanced rate of up to 150%. Import duties are waived on machinery, equipment, and raw materials used in production, while companies registered in free economic zones such as Bishkek and Naryn may also avail themselves of additional measures, including VAT exemptions and export tax rebates, thereby creating a dual cost advantage—both for capital goods and finished products. Furthermore, imports of medical and educational equipment are designated as priority items exempt from customs duties, and re‑export trade among Eurasian Economic Union member states can further reduce tariff burdens.
• Pharmaceuticals and Consumables: As a hub of the Central Asian healthcare market, Kyrgyzstan’s healthcare infrastructure is expanding at an annual rate of 8%. Public hospitals spend over RMB 350 million annually on consumables, with 90% of these imports sourced from abroad. The Kyrgyz government has designated glycyrrhizic acid–based drugs, large-volume parenteral solutions, and disinfectant products as priority import categories, giving preference to products that have already obtained WHO prequalification or European and U.S. regulatory approvals to shorten the registration process—from the original 180 days to 90 days.
• Medical Equipment: The medical equipment market in Ji is heavily reliant on imports, with 90% of devices sourced from abroad, and China serving as one of the key supplier countries. Priority areas include imaging equipment (MRI, ultrasound), life-support devices (ECG machines, ventilators), and surgical robots. The government plans to build four new hospitals meeting international standards, equipped with advanced facilities such as oncology radiotherapy systems and cardiovascular intervention equipment, with projected annual procurement exceeding US$1.2 billion.
2. Market Demand and Growth Potential
• Kyrgyzstan is experiencing explosive growth in demand for medical infrastructure. Under the National Healthcare Infrastructure Upgrade and Modernization Program, the government plans to build four international‑standard general hospitals in Bishkek, Osh, Jalal-Abad, and Batken, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities in specialties such as oncology and cardiology. According to the latest 2025 plan, an additional 23 hospitals will be constructed nationwide, including a 350‑bed regional hospital in Issyk-Kul Province, a 150‑bed hospital in the Cholpon-Ata resort area, and a pediatric cardiac surgery center in Bishkek, further addressing regional gaps in healthcare resources.
• Market data show that in 2024, China’s exports of medical equipment to Kyrgyzstan reached RMB 3.56 billion, with a compound annual growth rate of 25.83%, significantly outpacing European and American brands. With the delivery of the first batch of 200 CT scanners under the 2025 aid program and the demonstration effect of equipment at the reproductive center of a Chinese‑owned hospital, Chinese medical companies are poised to assume a leading position in high‑value‑added fields such as oncology radiotherapy and cardiovascular interventional procedures.
