Exhibition Introduction
ExpoMedical is the largest and most influential medical rehabilitation products exhibition in Argentina, the Spanish-speaking region, and throughout South America. Established in 2003, it is held annually. ExpoMedical serves the entire South American market—particularly rapidly industrializing countries such as Bolivia, Peru, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay—making it a premier platform for companies to strengthen their distribution networks and expand into the South American healthcare market.
ExpoMedical 2025 was held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from September 24 to 26. The three-day event brought together more than 100 exhibiting companies and over 4,000 industry professionals, hosted more than 50 conferences featuring 150 speakers, and saw 89% of exhibitors either meeting or exceeding their expectations. Attendees were primarily hospital and clinic staff, as well as distributors.
Market Overview
1. Argentina is the second-largest country in Latin America, with a population of approximately 45.9 million. In 2024, its total healthcare market was valued at around USD 16.302 billion, making it one of the core healthcare markets in South America.
2. Argentina’s per capita ratio of physicians and the share of healthcare expenditure in GDP both reach the levels typical of developed countries. According to the Argentine government’s 2025 budget, funding for health administration will increase by 6.2%, rising from 494.2797 billion pesos to 524.7840 billion pesos, with the health sector accounting for 5.6% of the total budget.
3. Medical products are 50% dependent on imports, and the medical device market as a whole is growing at an annual rate of approximately 9.2%. Driven by population aging and rising demand for advanced healthcare, high‑tech equipment—such as powered surgical instruments—has seen import growth exceeding 20% per year in recent years, with robust and sustained market demand.
4. The market boasts strong outreach capabilities, with exhibitions such as ExpoMedical reaching neighboring countries including Bolivia, Peru, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay. Nearly 40% of these countries’ imported medical equipment is re-exported through Argentina, making the country a crucial gateway to the South American inland market.
5. Argentina’s medical manufacturing sector is relatively underdeveloped. While the government has historically favored protecting domestic industries, the country remains heavily reliant on imports for medical products, leaving market supply to some extent dependent on external sources.
6. At present, the Afghan government has completed its leadership transition and has introduced several measures to streamline import procedures: for instance, low-risk Class I and II products no longer require individual import authorizations; foreign‑origin certifications of a high standard are accepted without mandating redundant local testing; import restrictions have been relaxed; and the barriers to entry for foreign‑branded products have been significantly lowered. As a result, the overall import environment has improved markedly.
7. Chinese products have significant growth potential in the Argentine and broader South American markets; nearly 30 Chinese exhibitors participate in ExpoMedical each year. In 2024, China’s exports of medical devices to Latin America reached US$3.96 billion, up 14.6% year over year, with Argentina emerging as one of China’s key customers in the region.
