Exhibition Introduction

Malaysia is bordered by the South China Sea to the east and the Strait of Malacca to the west, serving as a vital hub for East–West trade and wielding significant influence over the Southeast Asian market. As Malaysia’s capital, Kuala Lumpur’s open market environment and strong emphasis on technological innovation make it an ideal venue for the global medical device industry to showcase its latest advancements.

Market Overview

>Basic Information: Malaysia is divided into 13 states and 3 federal territories, with a total area of approximately 330,000 square kilometers and a population of 33.7 million. It is projected that by 2030, Malaysia will become an aging society, with the population aged 60 and above accounting for 15.3% of the total population.
> Opportunities in the ASEAN Healthcare Market: By 2025, total healthcare spending across ASEAN countries is projected to rise to US$740 billion. In recent years, healthcare expenditure growth in nearly all ASEAN nations has outpaced economic expansion. Regionally, in the first quarter of 2024, China–ASEAN trade increased by 6.4% year on year, with ASEAN maintaining its position as China’s largest trading partner and poised to sustain this growth trajectory, continuing to generate significant business opportunities.
> Malaysia’s Medical Market Outlook: The Malaysian medical device market is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 8.5% from 2023 to 2028, reaching US$4.5 billion by 2028. Across Southeast Asia, the medical device market is expected to hit US$16.82 billion by 2029, expanding at a CAGR of 7.83% between 2024 and 2029.

> Weak supply base: Over 90% of medical devices in Malaysia are imported, and the country’s medical device manufacturing technology remains at a relatively low level. Local manufacturers’ production capacity falls far short of meeting the growing domestic demand.
>Strong government support: Since taking office, Malaysia’s current prime minister has been working to restore political and economic stability, actively integrating into the global economy, comprehensively promoting trade liberalization, further strengthening relations with China, and vigorously fostering the continued development of China–Malaysia economic and trade ties. As a member of the RCEP, China has remained Malaysia’s largest trading partner and its top source of imports for 14 consecutive years.
